Description:

This classic custom Norman Cross trimaran is a proven cruiser. She has recently returned from a cruise down to South America and through the Panama Canal. Many upgrades including new upholstery, top sides, and bottom paint. She was re-rigged in 2014. She has a great layout for a cruising couple or family. She has an aft cabin stateroom with queen sized bunk and head. Custom interior of ash and canary wood. Large cockpit, as well as a separate fishing cockpit aft. Great liveaboard boat, fast, strong and stable.

Sunday is powered by a Yanmar j3jh three cylinder, 40 horsepower Diesel engine. The motor turns a 17 inch three blade fully feathering propeller. The propeller is a “Max prop” made in Italy, sold in the US by the PYI company. It provides exceptional reverse thrust equal to the forward thrust.

Her watermaker is a Spectra modular 12 volt unit. It is the earlier “Catalina” model which is similar to the model sold under that name today but in a more simple configuration.

The owners purchased Sunday in unfinished and cosmetically poor condition. She was hauled to their property where they totally refitted her. The construction took place in North Hollywood California and was executed by an unknown “skilled amateur”. She is cold molded of fir plywood using epoxy resin. Her construction justifies the “skilled amateur” description used by her original owner. She conforms to the design from Norman Cross with no modifications.

Sunday’s structural surfaces were all coated with epoxy. The appearance of the forepeak is the result of her age. These boats that were built using polyester resin or that were not well coated, even when built with epoxy, have not survived. That she is still sailing and was extensively cruised over the last ten years is evidence in itself of her build quality.

Sunday was re-rigged four years ago with an aluminum mast after the failure of the composite wood epoxy mast I built. The failure was due to lightning encountered in Columbia.
