Opis:

The W-22 only draws 22in with the board up and 5ft 7in with it down, making her perfect for shallow harbor cruising/racing. With her center board down she has excellent windward performance. She is the perfect classic, and easy to handle, daysailer or racer. The mast is hinged, so that it can rest on the boat, which means the W-22 can be trailered easily. It can be stored on land, making a slip or mooring unnecessary and it can be trailered to other locations so that racing is not limited to one area. Two people can launch and rig the boat in less than an hour, and while the boat can easily be sailed by one person, it’s big enough for six people. The classic lines and beautiful hull shape certainly turn heads as these two sisters are seen out for a sunset sail or match racing in a harbor.

The technology of the cold-molded hull offers a strong, yet, light and reliable structure. There has been no attempt to hide the beauty of the wood. The seats, for instance, are not flat, but sculpted on top so as to be more comfortable and more lovely under varnish. Simple and beautiful teak cockpit floor boards and the varnished coaming give her a timeless feel, yet, she has up to date rigging, hardware and sails. Sporting a North Sails furling jib and furling asymmetrical spinnaker, sail handling is a breeze.

In looking for a shallow water cruiser, yacht developer and founder of the W-Class, Donald Tofias, decided on the Sakonnet 23s/Joel White’s 1992 design No. 47, Lala as inspiration for the 22s. Updated by White’s son Steve White, and built by Artisan Boatworks of Rockport, Maine, W-22 Hull No. 1, Filly, and Hull No. 2, Colt, launched in 2015.

The debut originated in Tofias’ search for a trailer-able shoal-draft boat to explore the many lovely inshore destinations with limited depth. The W-Class W-22 draws only 1 foot 10 inches with the centerboard up. A weighted centerboard drops through the keel to a depth of 5 feet 7 inches for increased windward performance.

Whether sailing the shoal waters of Nantucket’s Inner Harbor to the Wauwinet Inn for lunch, or enjoying a warm South-Easterly breeze in the Lake Worth Lagoon of the Palm Beaches, the W-22s, Filly or Colt, will get you there in style.

Filly and Colt are the only two W-22s built to date and the idea for these boats was to have a small manageable yet classic design for a one-design class. The plans are still active and a fleet of 22s can be built for an interested buyer.
