About Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon is that privileged part of France which spans the Mediterranean from the Pyrenees of Spain through to the far banks of the Rhone river where Provence stretches to the Italian border. Since 2016 it has become part of the larger region of France named Occitanie.

The area offers a very diverse landscape with the Pyrenees mountains to the west and the marshlands of Camargue to the east with long stretches of sandy beaches in between. Whatever you are looking for when you search for French property it is likely that you will find it in this area. Much of the coastal property for sale is modern apartments but if you are looking for something more traditional then there is an abundance of inexpensive village properties within 30 minutes of the coast or more expensive stone farmhouses and cottages in the hills behind the coastal strip.

The whole area is full of magic and mystery from the splendours of medieval Carcasonne to the castles of the Cathars in Aude and the annual meeting place of the Romanies at Stes Maries de la Mer in Herault. It is also not short of culture either. In Pyrenees Oreintales there are lots of charming little harbours which were the haunt of many famous artists including Picasso, Cezanne, Matisse and Charles Rennie Macintosh. Maybe if you are looking for a picture for your new house in Languedoc-Rousillon you can take out your paints and be inspired by the artists who got their brushes out before you.

Not only does this region boast coast, mountains, castles and culture but it also has the Canal du Midi winding its way through the vineyards to the sea at Sete. There are also heather covered hills, enormous lakes and spectacular gorges. If you are looking for a property in Languedoc-Roussillon you will be spoilt for choice of landscape.

Another major attraction of the area is the climate. With 300 days of sunshine a
