Opis:

Morewood Manor, a 10,000-square-foot masterpiece listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as the Charles Whittlesey Power House, is an 11-acre estate whose lawns merge seamlessly into the green of the 9th hole of the Donald Ross - Wayne Stiles golf course of the Pittsfield Country Club. The estate's magnificent centerpiece is a Tudor-style manor house, built in 1911 after a design by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the foremost architect of English country homes. Centrally located to take advantage of all the Berkshire region offers, the impressive brick structure, laid in Flemish bond, is composed of grand spaces, lovely Gothic Revival details, natural woodwork, leaded glass windows and a multitude of decorative grace notes. Having purchased the estate in 1993, its current owners drew upon the expertise and skills of leading preservationists and master craftsmen to restore the interiors and gardens of Morewood Manor to their original grandeur, while installing new systems and amenities commensurate with 21st-century expectations. The painstaking restoration focused on authenticity to brilliant effect. Details include reclaimed antique wood flooring, crystal chandeliers, marble baths with period fixtures and hardware, and historically appropriate colors, stains, and wall coverings. For the expansive new kitchen and other key spaces, cherry and maple trees were selectively cut and milled on the property, aged in the carriage barn, then planed and used in construction and finish work, which echoes the home's original Gothic Revival architectural motifs. On the main level, one enters through a grand, open wood-paneled center hall where an imposing staircase rises within the volume of the cube. Ahead and spanning the entire south facade, the spacious living room is anchored by a fireplace, lit by crystal chandeliers, enlivened by distinctive leaded-glass bay window, and punctuated by French doors leading to the dining room and rear terrace. The beautiful formal dining room, with its fireplace, crystal chandelier, large leaded-glass windows, and period-inspired artisan wall treatments leads to the butler's pantry and kitchen. An intimate library with fireplace completes the first-floor plan. A generous walk-out lower level comprises a massive billiard room with fireplace and tile flooring, a bath, a bedroom (once the chauffeur's waiting room), a home office, and storage/work space. On the second floor are four bedrooms, including a master suite comprising a sitting room with wet bar, bedroom with view of the gardens and mountain scenery, ample walk-in closet, bath, and separate enclosed porch with double-wide Jacuzzi. Completing the second floor are three additional baths and a laundry room. Finally, the uppermost floor provides a sixth bedroom with half bath and a large game/TV/screening room. One might watch a PGA match here, or simply walk through an opening in the venerable iron fence and be on the adjoining golf course for an early tee-time. For additional guest space, antique cars, or horses, a large brick carriage house with patio offers many possibilities. Linking the manor and carriage houses, terraced formal gardens with a central fountain, established perennial beds and shrubs, reminiscent of the work of Gertrude Jekyll, with whom Lutyens often collaborated, create additional space for entertaining and relaxation, as they segue to lawns, woods, and beautiful easterly views. The current owners, who enjoy their privileges at the adjoining club, are often there for swimming, tennis and golf; to share this pleasure with the new owners, they are pleased to offer their sponsorship and the joining fee as part of Morewood Manor's sale. They have also appreciated the estate's easy access to shopping, fine dining at gourmet chef-owned farm-to-table restaurants, and world-class cultural venues, including Barrington Stage in Pittsfield, Tanglewood in Lenox, and the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown.
