The Castle, whose original central part was built between the ninth and tenth centuries following the disintegration of the Carolingian Empire, bears some resemblance to the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, later built by Arnolfo di Cambio, so much that it was mentioned by Vasari in his 'Vite de' piu eccellenti architetti, scultori e pittori' and was defined as a 'Prototype' of the Florentine Palazzo.

From the windows of the farmhouse you can also admire the entire Valley of Casentino, Camaldoli and La Verna, the villages of Bibbiena and Pratovecchio with the Castle of Romena and the small Village of Buiano with its 11th century Church.
