Lenno is an important centre of the western shore of Lake Como, situated between the promontory of Lavedo leading to Portezza and known as the Tremezzina. The historical treasures found by archaeological excavations are of Roman origins, providing wealth information relating to Lenno.
Attractions in the area inlcude the Church of St. Stephen and Baptistery, the Monastery of Acquafredda, so called from a source that springs in the churchyard, was built in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Furthermore Villa Balbianello a beautiful eighteenth century villa owned by the FAI from 1988 is famed more recently as the location of Hollywood movies such as Star Wars, Ocean Eleven and Casino Royale.
