The Pearson 30 has a well-deserved reputation for being an easy and enjoyable boat to sail. She has a PHRF-Lake Erie handicap of 174 seconds per mile, which indicates a respectable speed potential for a family cruiser or a daysailor. Pearson 30s have been and continue to be raced at various yacht clubs on the Great Lakes and elsewhere in North America. It is a coastal cruiser. The Pearson 30 was not designed to be an ocean cruiser but can be safely sailed with judicious reefing when the winds climb over 15 knots.
The Pearson 30 has berths for as many as six adults but is more suited for two couples or a husband and wife with children. The boat can be easily sailed by a couple or single handed. Head room and storage is good for a 30’ boat. The 30 horsepower engine has more than adequate power for times when the wind dies. Pearson 30s are known for having a better than average construction. She was a very popular boat that had a long production run. By the time she was replaced by the newer Pearson 303 in 1980, over 1,000 boats had been sold.
French Toast has been well maintained by its current owners and is in good condition. Her attractive hull has the original Robin’s Egg Blue gelcoat. Her general appearance inside and out is much better than most other sailboats of a similar age. She is a fresh water Great Lakes boat, which is a big advantage over saltwater boats in terms of condition. The current owners are being forced to sell because of health issues.
