Raven is a 1983 Sabre 34 yacht, the “MK I” series. It is a high-quality yacht with a handsome, classic design. Raven has been cruised on the Great Lakes, Lake Champlain, and Kentucky Lake. She is a fresh water only boat that has been stored in the winter. This is a significant advantage over boats kept in saltwater environments. She has a custom steel cradle and winter cover. She has a diesel engine. When the Sabre 34 was new, it was a relatively high priced sailboat, as befits the premium workmanship and materials. Sabres are built in Maine.
Raven has the factory installed racing rig upgrades giving her a potential performance edge over standard rig Sabre 34s. However, she was never raced. She would make a fun club racer as well as a comfortable daysailer or long-distance cruiser. Sabre 34s are not slow; they have a Performance Handicap Racing Fleet rating of 153. She is well equipped for cruising for a couple or a family. Sabre 34s have a reputation for being comfortable, seakindly, and safe in heavy weather.
The fact that Sabre 34's have held their value better than most, is evidence of the excellent design and construction. Heath issues are compelling the owner and wife to reluctantly put Raven up for sale. The current owner bought Raven in 1995 from the original owner. Sabre has an After Sales Service Department that offers online, telephone, and email support services for Sabre 34 owners even though the 34 is no longer in production. Raven is a good example of the classic downeast-style yachts that have been the hallmark of Sabre from its founding in 1970 to today.
