Highly regarded both for sailing performance and quality of her construction, the Pretorien 35 sailboat is a Holman & Pye design. A lead 3-ton keel, bolted externally to a deep stub, keeps the boat on its lines when the breeze pipes up. A relatively long waterline ensures good speed potential, particularly in winds over 10 knots. A deep, skeg-hung rudder provides excellent control. The Pretorien displaces 13,000 pounds with 6,613 pounds of ballast, for a ratio of 51%. She is a stiff boat in high winds. The interior is all teak with excellent joinery.
One of the Pretorien 35's owners was Hal Roth. This legendary mariner and his wife Margaret sailed their Pretorien Whisper around the world and across the Atlantic several times. If your dream is to cruise the Great Lakes, the east coast of America, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico, the Mediterranean, the Pacific Northwest, or any other Bluewater destination a Pretorien can carry you in safety and comfort.
Seraphim has had regular maintenance and is in good condition despite her being a 1982 yacht. For example, her engine was replaced in 2005 with a new Yanmar diesel and saildrive. This drivetrain has less than 800 hours. In 2014 the teak was replaced in the cockpit.
Seraphim has a private forward cabin with a vee-berth, a private stern cabin with a quarter berth, and a slide-out pilot berth in the main salon with a lee cloth. She is ideal for a couple, but she can sleep up to five. Seraphim has an attractive dark blue hull. Since 2010 she has cruised and raced on the Great Lakes. She participated in the challenging Port Huron to Mackinaw Island race. Previously she was sailed in New England in the summer. Since 2010, Seraphim has been stored in heated indoor storage. Seraphimis one of the relatively few yachts that you can sail with confidence most anywhere for less than $100,000.
