Despite this, Jose Ignacio, perhaps rather surprisingly, retains much of the charm and relative quietness that were its hallmarks when it was nothing more than a sleepy little fishing village, some years ago. Probably the main reason for this is that most of the new development along the coast in recent years has been concentrated on fashionable Punta del Este, known as 'the Miami of South America' and only some 25 km from the property.

As well as its fabulous beach, Jose Ignacio has something for everyone, from the sophisticated bars and restaurants to the 'must visit' beach shacks, from the sun worshipping opportunities to endless forms of leisure activity of which, almost inevitably, horse riding tops the list, although the excellent surfing, swimming and other water sports are equally notable.

Wherever you are in this most attractive of small towns, you will never be far from its iconic lighthouse, built in 1877. There are, of course, shops and commercial facilities to meet all requirements, fashionable boutiques, the fish market, which is an inevitable draw, and much more besides.
