Opis:

Duncannon Plantation was founded in 1802 by Joseph Harley. Historic plantation home circa 1835 completely restored to original beauty, working transoms over doors, 10 gas fireplaces indoors, plus a 2 bedroom, 2 bath caretakers cottage in rear with 2 fireplaces. This plantation was built in 1835 by Joseph Harley. Previously called Walker Plantation after George Herbert Walker, maternal grandfather of President George Herbert Walker Bush Sr. who grew up visiting Duncannon as a child and visiting Duncannon during the 1992 presidential campaign. Lt Col William Hanceford Duncan married Mr. Harley's daughter, Harriet, and built the home in 1835. It is rumored the General Sherman did not allow his troops to burn the home due to the sickness of one of Col. Duncan's children. After Walker purchased the plantation in the 1930's they built tennis courts of which only a few pipes are coming out of the ground today, and had 6-8 acres fenced off for the hunting dogs. Walker was quite a horseman, and was the originator of the Walker Cups in tennis and golf. In 1911 the house was used as a boarding house. Several legacies still remain from the Walkers ownership of the house. As you step in the front door and turn left, you enter the dining room, there are 5 bullet holes in the ceiling near the front porch side of the room; the holes were inflicted on the ceiling by either Walker or Vice President Bush while trying to shoot down a wasp nest.
