Some Valiant history

Like automobiles, yacht designs and models tend to come and go, most having very short life spans. When a manufacturer’s model lasts for 35 years, you just know they must have done something right.  Here’s the scoop on this boat.

• Valiant 40/42 built from 1975 to 2010
• Original V40 originally designed in 1973, some 200 were built
• Valiant 42 introduced in 1993
• Design improvements over the V40:  taller rig, 77 sqft increased sail area, custom hatch locations, higher cockpit coamings, and more interior headroom
• Robert Perry design brought the first ‘performance’ cruiser to market with off shore qualities of comfort, stability and safety:  modern wetted surfaces, long fin keel, fully skegged rudder
• Inducted into the Sailboat Hall of Fame in 1997
• Fastest single-handed Southern Ocean circumnavigation in 1983
