The Slocum 43 is a sturdy, cutter rigged double-ender designed by naval architect Stan Huntingford of Vancouver, British Columbia. It evolved from his famous Passport 42 design. A handful of them were built in the Pilothouse configuration, as is our offering.

While many may not be familiar with Stan, you may recognize some of his works- Passport 42 & 51, Maple Leaf and Cooper Pilothouses, Chinook, True North, Rafikis and the Liberty 49, among many others. All solid boats with owners that love them. These are world-class offshore cruisers and not dock anchor boats- they cruise and can routinely be seen in all corners of the world.

Built to American Bureau of Shipping standards, the Slocum 43 Pilothouse was built at the Hai-O Yacht Building Yards in Taiwan by Cruising Yachts International under the supervision of Jan Stadman, who designed most of the interior. These are heavy displacement yachts that are superior to many of the better known cruising yachts of her size.

Below the water line the hull shows a fine entry with a long cutaway forefoot followed by an efficient and modern keel and a deep profile skeg-hung rudder just forward of a tapered stern section. This design combination readily separates the Slocum 43 from other traditional yachts and offers ease of handling with lively, safe performance.

Topsides, the tumble home stern, deep, safe secure cockpit, raised bulwarks with high lifelines, beefy standing rigging and sensible deck layout make for a true blue water cruiser.

The interior is one of the warmest, roomiest and most comfortable interiors available in a 43’ cruising yacht. Fine teak joinery as one comes to expect from Taiwan builders even to this day. Great storage throughout and a galley with plenty of refrigeration and counter space. These boats make a great live-aboard and a comfortable, sturdy passage maker.
