Raider is a well maintained piece of history who is still in her prime today. She is hull #12 of 20 NY32's, Design No. 125 by Sparkman and Stephens and built in 1936 for New York Yacht Club members. Her original name was Rampage II and her original owner was Arthur W. Page who was a “business executive, editor, publicist and government consultant who concerned himself with the future, with the shape of things to come.” In 1936 he was vice-president in charge of public relations at AT&T, a position he held from 1927-1947. “In 1945 he was appointed a temporary special consultant to the Secretary of War in public relations.” After graduating from Harvard in 1904, Page went into the publishing business with Doubleday, Page & Company. The last fourteen of the twenty-two years he spent there were editing World’s Work, when his father, Walter Hines Page, was appointed by President Wilson the U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James. “Mr. Page’s public service started in 1930 when he was an advisor to the United States delegation at the London Naval Conference.”

In addition to Mr. Page, she has had a multitude of very interesting and well established owners. Raider was actually the first NY32 to cross the Atlantic by sail in 1950 from New York to Bergen, Norway (full and captivating story in link above) with her owner Frederick C. Lyman.

She was completely rebuilt to new condition during the Spring of 1962 and on December 31st, 1962, she was renamed Raider. During that restoration, they replaced bad planking, did a complete re-fastening, the deck and cabin house were reconstructed. She got new stainless steel rigging, a new bronze mast step, new transom, a new engine and feathering propeller. Over $130,000 was spent in six months in that renovation to make certain every detail was perfect.

Major updates are being completed this Spring. 2018 she got new deck beams and new topside paint (painted white), 2019 she is completely re-wired, re-upholstered and new deck paint (buff color non-skid) and her gimbaled saloon table is re-finished. Check specs page for new equipment. The owner spent over $75,000 on renovations last year. Everyone knows that a boat is only as good as it's previous owner and she has certainly had a lot of love from her previous owners.

She has an extensive and impressive race history since 1936 and with her current owner she has collected many trophies in the 70s along with the casual weekend \"rum\" race recently. It is time for her current owner to pass the baton.

The 175th NYYC Anniversary Regatta in Newport, RI is a great reason to buy Raider. The owner plans to take Raider to Newport at the end of June but would prefer to have a new owner before then. This year, 2019, is the first time that the NYYC has had an official start for the NY32 as a one design class in a regatta since 1949 and they are expecting 10 or 11 NY32's racing in Newport this summer.

The transom was replaced and the current owner took the old transom to get signed by Olin Stephens during his book signing. He is reluctant to give up this special artifact but he is willing to let it go to the right buyer.
