Cruise Florida, the Bahamas and beyond in comfort. Built by the legendary Kha Shingh shipyard, the 1988 Vista 52 Sundeck Phantom is a rare bird, with the sought-after fully enclosed aft deck which adds 25% more living area compared to its sister ships — more interior room than many 60-footers — and storage galore.
You get the interior room of a much larger yacht while still being able to operate the boat single handed.
There are two salons — a 13’ x 13’ full beam salon upstairs aft with a built-in entertainment center and wet bar, and a second 11’ x 12’ salon amidships on the main deck with its own wet bar. Phantom is a cruiser’s dream with room for friends, kids and grandkids: there are two full heads with showers and the three separate staterooms sleep 7, plus there’s room in the upper salon for a pullout couch (or two) to sleep even more.
A short staircase from the upper salon leads to an enclosed flybridge and helm with chart plotter, radar, autopilot and more. Excellent visibility and a newer ruggedized bimini make it a comfortable command station with seating for six.
From the upper salon, sliding glass doors lead to a line handling station with walk-through transom and access to the swim platform below.
The large galley is down a few steps forward of the main salon with a new full-size bottom-freezer stainless refrigerator, Princess 3-burner cooktop and a new convection/microwave. It has more than 10 linear feet of countertop and drawers plus two dozen cabinets and more storage under the counter and under the galley steps. It also has a newer clothes washer/dryer.
It’s all carried on a solidly built seaworthy hull, with a deep forefoot to cut through waves and a flatter back for performance. The stand-up engine room below the main salon holds two Caterpillar 3208TA diesels with less than 2,800 hours. At 375-hp each, they will bring Phantom up to 20 knots if you need to get somewhere in a hurry or throttle back to cruise at 15 kts. At a more leisurely 10 knots, the Cats sip a miserly 3 gph from the twin 300-gallon fuel tanks affording an 800-mile range. There are also (8) new house batteries and a Xantrex Freedom 25 inverter/charger to provide AC power from the batteries alongside a 12kw Westerbeke diesel generator. There’s also a built-in fuel polishing system and room for tool storage.
The interior is dressed head to toe in gorgeous teak, with steam-bent arched doorways and a teak-and-holly sole in the master stateroom, galley and forward V. Down one level from the main salon are two staterooms. The full-beam master stateroom is aft and features an island queen berth with built-in teak drawers, cabinets and lockers along with its own air conditioner.
A lockable door leads into the remodeled head with shower. Across the hall, a twin stateroom features two bunks; the upper is on hinges and can be swung down out of the way.
The forward V has an upper bunk for one and a lower bunk for two along with a private door into the forward head/shower.
Phantom was owned for many years by a marine engineer/boatbuilder who maintained the engines at a high level; both Cats and the generator start instantly, with no smoke, and run strong. The boat has been kept in fresh water for the past six years and is in a covered slip.
Very few Vista Yachts change hands each year -- and even fewer with the enclosed aft deck. Recent listings include a 43-footer for $99,000 and a 49-footer for $109,000, and neither had the enclosed aft.
This is a rare opportunity to own a cruise-ready classic motoryacht with the amenities you want and the space to enjoy family and friends.
