The first historical information about the town of Monte Alfina dates from Etruscan times, the name Alfina comes from its geographical position, placed on the border between Etruria and Lazio. It is known from history that Castello di Montalfina was built at the end of the XIIIth century probably on the ruins of an older fortress. The historic property of Monaldeschi family, the complex was a scene of many battles between Monaldeschi and Filippeschi, two powerful families which were fighting at that time for the surrounding territories of Orvieto. Between 1411 and 1413 the castle was looted and set on fire by Ladislao, King of Naples and remained unused until 1437, when the family of Monaldeschi completely restored the complex with some changes. After a period of relevant peace, at the end of 1500s the property came into the inheritance of the Sforza family, which made the necessary renovations of the castle and surrounding buildings. In the first decades of the 1700s the castle was given to the Church by Ravizza family, whose members have being the owners of the property until the time when the current owners acquired the ownership of the castle.Castello di Montalfina, located on the plateau between the towns of Orvieto and Lago di Bolsena, at an altitude of 600m above sea level, in a dominant and reserved place, is immersed in a beautiful green countryside and surrounded by the natural environment: where dense forests and rolling hills are plowed forming a beautiful setting. The complex is not particularly isolated and easy reached from the center of the nearby village of Castel Giorgio 5 km away, from the well maintained country road which is quite accessible all year round - 1, 5 km.
