Bevagna is a medieval gem in the heart of Umbria. Its origins date back to the Iron Age, the first historic documentation dates back to the Roman conquest of Umbria. In 90 a.c. Bevagna was a Roman town; it later became part of the Aemilla tribe and was at the centre of trade, thanks to the position of Via Flaminia. It later became part of the Duchy of Spoleto and in 774 , of the Church . There is much to visit: the Roman ruins, the theatre, the medieval square in the heart of the town dating back to the 13th century and the Gothic Palace of the Consoli with its vaulted loggia. This is now home to the Theatre F. Torti, decorated by Domenici Bruschi and Mariano Piervittori. An interesting initiative, currently very active in Bevagna , is the Cultural Circuit for Medieval Work highlighting the traditional work by craftsmen during the Market of Gaite. It is possible to fully immerse oneself in the art of papermaking, candle making, weaving and painting, learning all the secrets and techniques of these ancient crafts. Guided tours and workshops are organised for all ages.
