This island is connected to mainland Greece and other Cycladic islands by ferry. It has two significant settlements,both villages are notable for their winding and often stepped streets, too narrow for vehicular traffic.

There is also a growing coastal settlement on the east side of the island, and many of the larger beaches are settled by a handful of residents.

Low stone fences run for many kilometres on bare Cycladic hills with 350 white country chapels here and there. The typical Cycladic style equally appears in the villages: cobbled narrow streets, white houses, squares, chapels and windmills.
