Parghelia is a lovely area renowned for its fishing industry, and due to its geographical position has stunning views of the area. There are beautiful beaches and small bays where you can relax in the sun or enjoy various water sports in its pristine waters.

Coast/Beach

Calabria has mile upon mile of sandy beaches, rocky coves, spectacular headlands and space. The beaches are among the cleanest in Italy and absolutely stunning, like you've gone long haul but without the flight! Probably the most famous of all beaches in Calabria is that of Tropea and no visit to the region would be complete without witnessing the glistening white sands that gently spill into the glittering blue waters. The beach of Tropea and it's marina are 2km away. Nearest beach 1.5km.

Golf

The closest golf course is the Feudo Montalto Golf Club in Limbadi, a small town 25km south of Tropea (30 minutes drive). The course lays among orange and olive trees. In spring (April-May), when you can play you will be surrounded by the smell of orange flowers, and autumn-winter, you can refresh yourself by picking an orange from the trees. Weather conditions in the region allow you to play every month of the year.

Skiing

Its amazing but true, that you can ski this far south, probably the most southerly resort in mainland Europe is Gambarie in Aspromonte a small ski resort with just 4 ski lifts (2 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) but it does boast a very impressive 670 metres (2198 feet) of vertical descent. Gambarie in Aspromonte has 5 pistes. The Ski resort is 100km away from Tropea.

Diving and snorkeling - Calabria offers one of the best diving areas in the Italian Mediterranean. This is mainly due to the geological characteristics typical of the diving areas south of Tropea. The marina has several diving schools.
Sailing & Windsurfing - Again there are schools in Tropea with courses which include catamaran-sailing and windsurfing for beginners as well as for advanced students.
Fishing - There are numerous companies offering deep sea fishing trips.
History and Culture - Calabria is a region of ancient Mediterranean culture and it is the place from which Italy derives its name. Accordingly there any many historical buildings and sites to visit in the region.
Walking Holidays - Calabria is an area of outstanding national beauty and has not only beautiful beaches and beautiful mountains but national parks. These make for peaceful and interesting walking holidays.

Travel

Ryanair offers cheap all year round direct flights from London Stansted Airport to Lamezia Terme Airport. The apartment is 50km, approximately 45 minutes drive from the airport.

It is also possible to fly from a number of Regional airports in the UK to Milian, Rome, Pisa, Bologna from where internal flights are available or Tropea can be reached by car/train. This is ideally suited for a two centre holiday (city+beach).

Calabria, the southern most 'toe' of the Italian 'boot', is described by many to be the Mediterranean's best kept secret, offering a glimpse of authentic Italy. However, to Italians, particularly those from the busier cities, it is a very popular tourist area, which they often refer to as the ‘Real Riveria’.

The area basks in sun much of the year round with summer temperatures often in the 30 - 40C range, whilst winters are mild with temperatures rarely dropping below 10 C. The warm temperatures and extended summer season mean this is an area that can be enjoyed much of the year round, with bathing in the sea continuing as late as November !

The town of Tropea is situated on one of the most stunning coastlines, no wonder this coast is called “La Costa degli Dei”, the Coast of the Gods. Many regard Tropea as Calabria's jewel, the most picturesque of its towns. Tropea pulls off a rare trick by managing to be both unspoilt and fashionable, becoming one of the most sought-after places in Calabria

The beachfront and nearby marina hosts many pizzerias and seafood restaurants, rental boats, organised boat trips and a diving school. In high season, Tropea seems to have a festival every week, and celebrates everything from Blues and Jazz to the locally grown red onions ! As in all Italy, music, the Arts and food figure prominently in Tropean life and the concerts and restaurants are for all to enjoy.

Marassusa is located on the hillside in the village of Parghelia, which joins on to Tropea. Famous for its fishing, Paraghelia has its own beautiful beach and small villiage atmosphere with restaurants, bars, little shops, a small supermarket, post office and bank. There is a coastal train service that stops at Parghelia will take you to other resorts and in the summer there are ferries to Sicily and the Aeolian Islands - including Stromboli.
