Paleochora (or Paliochora and Paleohora as you might find it), is located in the province of Chania, on the island of Crete and lies along the Southern boundary of Greece. Paleochora is 70 km far from Chania and 200 km far from Heraklion. It is a small peninsula projecting into the Libyan sea and is also called the "Libyan Bride" and the "Sunland".

Paleochora is now inhabited by approximately 2500 people. The landscape is magnificent and this area offers a large variety of hotels, rooms and hostels at the best prices and for all tastes. It is said that in Paleochora you can find the best coastlines of the island.

Paleochora is well ordered and able to offer whatever the holidaymaker may need, like, for example, Banks, Doctors, Pharmacies, Police Station, Post Office, Telecommunication Facilities, Port Office, Cinemas, Bars, Clubs etc.
Paleochora can also become the ideal base from which to tour by car or bus around the neighbouring towns and villages or by boat to other parts of the island. You are able to visit archeological and historical monuments, Byzantine churches and monasteries, museums, famous gorges like Samaria's, Agias Irene's etc, archeological cities like Lissos, Elyros, Kandania, caves, coastlines etc.

There is a daily sea transportation to Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro. Sfakia, Elafonissos and Gaydos. We also have daily afternoon cruises in order to meet the dolphins and whales of the area. In Paleochora you can also find European walking paths E4 E1 and all of them end in a wonderful beach. Other water activities are swimming, fishing, surfing, water ski, underwater fishing photographing, jet ski, sailing, parachute etc. One thing is for sure, you will never get bored in Paleochora.

In the evening, the main streets are closed to all types of vehicles and open only to pedestrians. Free from traffic and noise as the daytime activities give way to tranquillity and romance, you can enjoy your walk, dinner or coffee time on the coastal or central paths of Paleochora. Paleochora, whose beaches have been awarded the "Honoured Blue Flag" by the E.C, has established a reputation as an ideal holiday area. Paleochora Weather

Greece is one of the most popular travel destinations where people not only go to discover and learn about the ancient Greek history but also to enjoy the nice Mediterranean climate. Paleochara lies on the western side of the Crete Island and faces the Libyan Sea. If you are going to Crete island than you definitely have to keep light clothes with you because the temperature there is always humid and therefore you might sweat a lot if you are always on the move from one place to another. Since Paleochora is a coastal city you will find that cool breeze from Libyan Sean might relieve you for sometime but it totally depends on the air flow.

If you are visiting Paleochora during the month of June to September than you will have to bear a lot of sunlight because the temperature will definitely soar up to 25 degrees Celsius and 77 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the temperature slides down in the month of November and December and you might feel that the climate is bearable and pleasant for some days. Hence, most of the tourists who would love to visit Paleochora prefer to visit this place during October when the climate is pleasant and comparatively cooler.

Though, many parts of Crete island do receive small amount of snowfall, Paleochora does not receive much snowfall because it is very close to the coast. People from Greece and other parts of the world come to Paleochora to enjoy its warm weather which would be a perfect location for those who love sunny beaches where they can tan their bodies and spend some quality time with their friends and family. The winter in Paleochora does not stay for long but still you might find cold winds blowing from the month of November to March.

How to Get to Paleochora

From Chania to Paleochora by bus:

The bus trip takes two hours, and passes through a dozen unique villages - the most historical being Floria and Kandanos, whose inhabitants were martyred by the Germans in retaliation for their heroic collective resistance and individual courageous acts.

From Heraklion to Paleochora by bus via Chania:
It takes 3 hours to get to Chania from Heraklion. The itinerary includes a stop at Rethymno. At Chania you change buses to Paleochora, so the whole trip will take 5 hours if you're lucky and catch a bus leaving for Paleochora at once. The same trip by rented car takes about 3,5 hours not counting any stops.

From Chania Airport or Souda Port to Paleochora:
In both cases you need to take a bus or taxi to the centre of Chania and the main KTEL bus station. Alternatively, you can rent a car and ask for it to be delivered to the airport at Akrotiri or Souda Port. With a good map you won't have any trouble finding the road to Paleochora and getting there quickly and easily. You'll need a hire car anyway, to explore the area and the many beaches extending across the 18km of coastline east and west of the town.
