Rhodes town is approx. 30km away, and the dual carriageway is the main link between the north and south of Rhodes. Afandou (Afantou) Village is 20km away from the magnificent medieval Rhodes town, and the main air gateway (Diagoras International Airport IATA code: RHO) is located to the southwest of Rhodes in Paradisi, approx 20 km distance from Afandou. Afandou village was founded in the days when pirates were ravaging the Mediterranean. It is said that the village owes its name to the place where it was built - A place that was "afanto, afando" which in Greek means invisible from the sea. Afandou is an attractive traditional Greek village surrounded by beautiful countryside. For a complete change of pace and scenery, the hectic resort of Faliraki is only a short distance away.

Afandou mainly attracts families and couples who like to relax during the day and have a central location in Rhodes Island. It's one of the biggest traditional villages in Rhodes. Here you'll find numerous bars, cafes, taverns restaurants and clubs. The local cuisine has always been one of the strong points of hospitality and culture in Afandou. In close distance is a 18-hole Golf Club, directly situated at the beach, and the pebbled beach of Afandou with several taverns and cantinas is awarded with the Blue Flag.

Afandou is only a short distance away from Kolimbia (Kolymbia) area.

Kolymbia started to develop only a few years ago, and has managed to maintain its natural beauty also the traditional Greek Island look. Here, you will find some of the finest hotels and apartments on the island. There are plenty of traditional Greek taverns and restaurants, clubs, cafes and they are favourite amongst the local people.

A long and shady straight road leads to KOLYMBIA or KOLIMBIA beach, lined on each side by majestic eucalyptus trees. Kolymbia beach is located about 24km from Rhodes Town along the eastern shore just south of, and overlooking, Afandou Bay. Kolymbia village was originally built by the Italians as a model farm village and the houses in this area are noted for their preposterously large chimneys.

Kolymbia resort consists of three beaches each side of a large volcanic rock outcrop. The shady road ends at a small enclosed harbour. The main Kolymbia beach is to the north, which is sand and shingle, curving slowly around the bay and very exposed with no natural shade. There are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas and some natural tree shade near the harbour where a line of rocks lie just offshore. Unfortunately an impressively ugly hotel block has been built behind the middle of the beach which helps to spoil the view at what was once a picturesque spot.
