Description:

SummitCare Smithfield

SummitCare Smithfield strives to consistently deliver individual, warm care to every resident to nurture their wellbeing.

Located in a tranquil cul-de-sac, the peaceful and welcoming centre is home to 90 residents, who together form a true community.

SummitCare Smithfield’s three accommodation wings offer the option of single, twin and multi-bed rooms. There is a beautifully furnished lounge area, where residents gather for meals, relaxation and activities and a shaded central courtyard garden is a popular spot for residents and their families to gather.

The social agenda at SummitCare Smithfield is always full, and includes sing-alongs, entertainers, coffee gatherings, religious services and in-house movies.

Cultural variety plays an important role. Spanish and Italian groups are among those to hold regular gatherings and SummitCare Smithfield is proud to cater for residents with staff who speak Spanish and Assyrian.

The centre offers the Play Up program, featuring professional performers who deliver humour therapy to residents, and the Spark of Life program.

Food is tasty and fresh, designed by our dietitian and cooked on site. Fortnightly hairdressing services are available as well as access to podiatrists, speech pathologists and dietitians. SummitCare Smithfield also offers a highly regarded mobility and exercise program.

An easy walk from the CBDs of Smithfield and Fairfield Heights, SummitCare Smithfield is close to train and bus services.

The centre prides itself on the professional calibre of its staff, who attend regular education sessions to ensure high levels of service delivery that far exceed the required standards.

Live the life you want to live at SummitCare Smithfield.

Safety Information

SummitCare is committed to ensuring the safety of the residents, relatives, staff and volunteers in our centres. We hold a bi-monthly Work Health & Safety and Risk Management forum, and each centre has an appointed committee.

Fire Training

Our residential centres conduct fire training for all staff members through Emcorp. Staff are trained in the use of equipment such as fire extinguishers, evacuation and general handling of an emergency fire situation. Mock fire training is also conducted, where staff practice evacuating residents under similar conditions. Residents can be involved in this training, or they may elect not to be involved.

Outbreak Management

In the residential aged care environment, outbreaks of infectious disease sometimes occur, despite the rigorous infection-control principles that are applied throughout our centres. SummitCare utilises a strict outbreak management procedure to contain the spread of infection in these situations. During outbreaks, visiting is suspended so as not to spread the infection beyond the centre. Any outbreaks are reported to the public health unit and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency, as per our critical incident procedure.

HACCP

SummitCare kitchens are fully compliant with HACCP legislation. Food is prepared in accordance with the HACCP guidelines, as well as the Food Safety Standards of Australia.
