History
The Villa Maria Centre was established by the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, who have provided aged care services for over 100 years in Queensland.
The order was founded by Fr Julian Tenison Woods in Brisbane in 1874 and was once famous for its needlework, making priest's vestments and supplying Brisbane emporiums with bridle trousseaus.
The Sisters, who have cared for the poor, aged and needy, reside at their convent at the Villa Maria Centre at Fortitude Valley. It is here they continue their order's main work; the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
In January 2008, the Villa Maria Centre at Fortitude Valley joined Catholic Healthcare. The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration is a member organisation of Catholic Healthcare.
