Whilst the town has maintained much of its original charm it is now one of the most up and coming resorts of this region. Kalkan consists of narrow cobbled streets which all lead to the picturesque harbour. It has a wonderful array of restaurants where you can sample some of the finest cuisine in the world, many with roof top terraces offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the starlight night sky. Alternatively you can watch the gullets and fishing boats from one of the many harbour side restaurants. There are a few bars available in both areas for a relaxing drink at any time of the day or night. Market day, Thursday, selling a wide variety of goods including locally grown produce, particularly good value are the herbs and spices. In the town there is a wide selection of shops selling beautiful Turkish carpets, jewellery, antiques and wonderful clothing made from the finest Turkish cotton which open well into the late hours. This stunning property has the following sleeping arrangements- 1 x double room, 1 x twin room with two bulk beds & 1 x sofa bed Bedlinen is supplied and they are very large rooms. The 2 bedrooms lead onto balconies with clear views over the bay. There arre 2 bathrooms- 1 bathroom with whirlpool bath & 2nd bathroom is a shower room (walk in shower) Towels are supplied. Large fully tiled bathrooms. The kitchen boasts the following utensils - big freezer, fridge, grill, hob, iron and board, microwave, oven, toaster, dishwasher, grill, juicer, very well equipped kitchen and many extras including baby items and there is a washing machine in the upstairs bathroom. The villa has air-conditioning, central heating, free standing fan, hair dryer, open fire, room heaters and plenty of linen and towels .In the living area books, CD player, DVD player, satellite TV, stereo, TV and internet access are supplied. The villa is be easily accessed from the main road. Outside the villa , it boasts a balcony, garden, garden furniture, parking, private swimming pool, sunbeds, terrace, washing line, a roof top terrace with a brick BBQ adds an extra dimension for dining whilst enjoying amazing all round views. A great place to watch the sunset over the bay. Kalkan's stone beach is about a five minute by walking. There are wonderful sandy beaches nearby. Patara beach has 15 miles of golden sands and is considered by The Sunday Times as amongst the top six in the world. Patara is about a 15 minute drive away - buses leave for Patara every 30 minutes. Kaputas beach is a 10 minute drive in the opposite direction, on the road to Kas, which is more than worth a visit. Buses leave for Kaputas at least every 30 minutes. Kalkan is a small city, an ideal place when you want to avoid mass tourism found in many larger cities. To certain books Kalkan is quoted as the best kept secret of Turkey. The local people are very friendly and hospitable. Kalkan is built at the foot of the Taurus mountains, until the 1920's as a Greek fishermans village. Its many small and winding streets are very romantic but also make Kalkan less accessible for people with a walking disability. The Kalkan area has a lot of places to visit like the impressive gorge of Saklikent, Patara beach (longest sandy beach of Turkey and famous turtle breading area), the mountain plateau with the village of Bezirgan, the trout farms in Islamlar or the historical monuments of Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Arycanda, Kekova, Myra and others. Kalkan itself has extensive facilities for boat trips, swimming, diving, snorkeling, bird watching, walking etc. Surrounded by many places of interest from 10 to 30 minutes drive. Places to visit within easy reach by car are the Lycian Way, Saklikent Gorge, Kekova sunken city, Tlos, Xanthos, Letoon and the magnificent beach of Patara, Phellos and Antiphellos (Kas). It is possible to experience a Hamam or other relaxing spa treatments within a 5 min. walk of the villa. A hire car is not essential but taxis will come in three minutes if needed. most of the supermarkets offer a home delivery service. Ali Baba's restaurant, also do a take away service. The nearest bank, doctors, pharmacy, dentist are all within 5 mins. At the southwest corner of the Turkish coast (Turquoise Coast) lies one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of the Mediterranean. Kalkan was once occupied by the Greek Ottomans and their legacy has left an old town full of character. It has steep cobbled streets that wind down towards the harbour and the locals are exceptionally friendly. During the day Kalkan is almost disarmingly laid-back, as visitors choose to enjoy the crystal clear waters lapping the Lycian coast. The public beach next to Kalkan's harbour was recently extended and is more than adequate for swimming and sunbathing. However you choose to spend your days, no-one can resist being back in Kalkan in the evening, for the variety and quality of eating places on offer is quite astonishing for such a compact town. There are little restaurants that are so low key that many visitors never notice them; just the place to enjoy delicious and genuine local cooking. Magical surroundings, a dash of relaxed sophistication and a seemingly limitless variety of places to explore make Kalkan irresistible. The restaurants in Kalkan offer an exceptionally high standard of food and service, many restaurants have romantic roof terraces looking out over Kalkan. Eating out is excellent value and the Turkish wines are surprisingly good. The pretty cobbled streets of the old town are an Aladdin's cave with an abundance of shops selling clothes, jewellery, handbags, gifts, etc. There is also a weekly market on a Thursday. There are a number of bars that stay open through the small hours and play music but no loud nightclubs.
